The new regulation (EU) 2024/573

Enclosure and liquid cooling units contain F-gases, which are necessary for their function, and therefore fall under this regulation. We will inform you about which points have a detailed influence on enclosure and liquid cooling and which steps Pfannenberg is already taking.

Status as of March 2024

  • The European Parliament has revised the F-Gas Regulation and this is now valid as Regulation (EU) 2024/573
  • The quantities of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) placed on the market in the EU are being gradually reduced = new GWP limits have been set.

Summary of the F-Gases Regulation (cooling units)

  • With safety requirements, we must fulfil GWP < 750 from 01.01.2030
  • Pfannenberg relies on the refrigerant R513A (GWP = 631) for new cooling units

Summary of the F-Gases Regulation (liquid cooling - chillers)

  • Chillers < 12 kW: from 01.01.2027 natural refrigerants or refrigerants with GWP < 150

  • Chillers > 12 kW: from 01.01.2027 refrigerants with
    GWP = 750

  • Chillers < 12 kW: from 01.01.2032 with natural refrigerants

  • Pfannenberg relies on R513A (GWP=631) / R32 (GWP=675) and natural refrigerants

Phase-Out Scenario

In addition to the aforementioned bans, the quantities of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) placed on the market in the EU will be gradually reduced in a phase-out. The new reduction steps (see illustration) have been significantly tightened compared to the previous regulation.

In addition to the introduction of the refrigerant R513A, Pfannenberg is working on further measures to reduce the global warming potential.
